Spring is here, you can feel it in the air, see it on the trees and you’re probably already sick to death of hay fever! Thoughts are starting to turn to the Spring Racing Carnival, the flowy frocks, and most likely your laser hair removal commitments (or lack thereof). But luck and time are still in your favour – the end of Winter and the beginning of Spring is actually the best time to commence your Laser Hair removal journey, leaving you silky smooth for the coming Summer months! In light of that, we’ll cover the 8 most important things you need to know before you book in.
1. Avoid sun exposure
We say Spring time is best, because you’ve likely had none to very little sun exposure and therefore are the perfect laser candidate. If you have, however, been frolicking in the European sun – ensure you wait 2 weeks before you book yourself in. This is very important because if you are sunburned, tanned or there is any pigment in your skin, the laser will #burnbabyburn – we’re serious, don’t mess around with this one!
2. Don’t fake it till you make it (with your tan)
Much the same as a real tan, a fake tan means no treatment for you. Yes, we understand this means being ghastly white, but that’s the beauty of winter / spring. You’re covered up head to toe so you may as well let your skin rest and recover from the tan and allow it to get silky smooth instead. It’s all about compromise.
3. Wax on or wax off?
Rejoice, your painful waxing days are over. We NEED you to shave. The root of the hair must be present in the follicle for the laser to identify it and waxing very much rips the root of the hair out. Shave your treatment area 12-14 hours prior to your appointment. A clean shave with a sharp razor is a must! Longer strays aren’t welcome as this increases the risk of causing burns.
4. Skip the moisturiser and/or deodorant.
It’s time to embrace the au natural lifestyle. On the day of the treatment, we need your skin to be clean and free of any product. That means no moisturisers, perfumes, deodorants, oils. Just let it breathe. In saying that, if we’re treating your legs, feel free to wear your deodorant!
5. Be honest with your skin specialist
At The Skin Boutique, you’re always in safe hands with our laser qualified skin specialists. We use only medical-grade equipment and you’ll always have a thorough consultation pre treatment. In order to receive the best and safest results, this means you need to be completely honest with your therapist and disclose any previous treatments or medications that you’ve been taking.
6. Be real…istic
It is going to take more than one session to achieve the incredible results you are after. This is why at your initial consultation, our skin specialists will put together a treatment plan, to give you a realistic expectation of when to expect long-term hair reduction. It is also important to keep in mind that some hairs will never leave for good, they always strive to grow back. This kind of re-growth can be affected by hormones and other biological factors, which always vary from person to person.
7. Be consistent
If you want the best results, it is so important that you attend your appointments religiously! Every 4-6 weeks, or at intervals advised by your skin specialist. The timing of your treatments can dramatically influence the outcome due to hair growth patterns. This is why it’s best to book in a course of treatments, rather than leaving it to sporadic appointments.
8. Don’t get it HOT in HERE
Cool your jets and avoid exercising and hot showers. These both increase your body temperature, causing you to sweat and create potential breeding ground for bacteria. This can, in turn, lead to infections or ingrown hairs, so it’s best to take the 24hrs post treatment off the hot stuff!
Our fully approved, medical grade laser is the most advanced available in the world and can be used to treat both light and dark skin types. So what are you waiting for, book a consultation and spring into your new, flawless hair-free skin!
