What is LED Light Therapy and What Does It Do For Your Skin?

If only we had a dollar for every time we heard the question, 'Can light really do that much?'

In fairness, it's normal to be so skeptical of something that causes no pain, is not invasive and is even described at pleasant and relaxing. LED Light Therapy has rightfully earned it's spot on the A-lists most sought after treatment list! It's coveted by Hollywoods finest and even referred to as the red carpet go-to by Australia's very own Zoë Foster Blake - and she was a beauty editor for years!

So, what is an LED Facial?

Put simply, LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. Without confusing you too much, it is a light source that emits infrared light (and thereby, heat). There are 3 powerful wavelengths that promote the production of collagen and elastin, target active acne, and reduce inflammation post-treatment. It was originally developed to fast-track the healing of wounds and post surgery scars. The rejuvenation of healthy skin was just a happy coincidence, and aren't we glad about it!

What is the difference between the coloured lights?

The Blue Light is great for targeting the p-acne bacteria (porphyrin) without harming irritating the skin. It helps tremendously to improve skin clarity and reduce future breakouts as its anti-bacterial properties decongest and purify problem skin and help normalise oil production. This wavelength also happens to promotes calming and relaxation and we could all do with more of that!

The Red Light is beneficial for all skin types and has an anti-ageing effect on the skin. It has been proven to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, improve skin laxity, and increase circulation for a healthy glow to the skin after just one treatment. It also helps sufferers of sensitive skin conditions such as rosacea, eczema and psoriasis.

The Infrared Light penetrates the furthest of the 3 available wavelengths to promote faster healing, reduce inflammation and stimulate the greatest collagen and elastin production. This wavelength works best when complementing our other skin treatments as it reduces inflammation, promotes the body’s natural healing response and enhances your results.

Is it really necessary?

Do you want your skin cells producing collagen and elastin like that of someone in their early 20s? LED is so great for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improving uneven skin tone, reducing pores size, brightening the skin and rejuvenating the youthful look of your skin. It is the only aesthetic device that has no contra-indications of any kind. It is good for all skin types, colours and conditions. It is safe for the eyes and it cannot be overused so you can only benefit from it.

How often are LED Facials recommended?

Although you will feel the benefits after only one treatment, at The Skin Boutique, we generally recommend a course of 10 treatments over 4-6 weeks for best results. With each treatment, you will notice that collagen and elastin production are increasing and that fine lines and wrinkles are beginning to fade away.

All our LED Facials include an Aspect Fruit Enzyme Peel to really restore your skin. One treatment is $99, 3 treatments are $199 and 10 treatments are only $449. It has really never been so affordable to have the skin you always wanted, so if you're ready to take the first step to flawless skin, get in touch with us and let one of our Skin Specialists guide you to healthy skin!
