SKIN NEEDLING - Everything you need and want to know.

As the age old saying goes, beauty is pain, although we don’t think they were referring to Skin Needling when they said it. It may sound like an intimidating and painful procedure, no thanks to the work ‘needle’ in its name, but the treatment itself thanks to the numbing cream involved is really not a very painful one at all, and trust us when we say that you would gladly take any pain for the results that come with it.

So, what is Skin Needling?

Essentially, it is a minimally invasive treatment, which uses oscillating micro needles to gently pierce the skin and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin’s. As the needles lightly damage the skin, they trick your skin into renewing itself as your body treats the small wound the same it would a large wound. This process starts to create new cells and collagen in response.

Who should do it?

Well we all know that the answer to some of the most pressing skin concerns is thicker skin. Skin needling is fantastic for acne scarring, and because it doesn’t use any heat and it is totally mechanical, it’s safe for all skin colours and types. Yay for diversity! It is a wonderful treatment for smoothing out the skin and filling in any scars along the way. It is used to treat fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, loose skin, uneven texture and of course scarring.

Does it hurt?

Ah, the most common question when it comes to this treatment. One would think that having hundreds of needles in your face would hurt, but thanks to the numbing cream, it doesn’t! The best part it that you don’t feel any discomfort after the treatment either. You will simply get redness and you might feel slightly sunburnt at the worst.

Which areas on the body can be treated?

Although it is the most common area of treatment, Skin Needling isn’t exclusive to the face. The treatment can be done anywhere that the skin on the body needs thickening. It is particularly good at getting rid of stretch marks, so think booty and legs!

How many treatments do I need?

It depends on the severity of the issue! At The Skin Boutique, we have partnered with leading pioneer, Dr Des Fernandes from Environ Skincare to perform Skin Needling the Environ way. Dr Fernandes has found by using topical Vitamin A, C & E before and during treatment has improved recovery time and enhanced results. We recommend 6 sessions, spaced 5-10 days apart, however it is best to consult with one of our Skin Specialists to see what your skin will require!

What should I do afterwards?

Ideally you will avoid putting on makeup for the rest of the day, but if you really need to, it is completely safe to wear later in the evening. For best results, you will use the take home Environ Skin Needling Essentials Kit, which will maximise your results and speed up your recovery. You will be able to safely apply makeup the next day and resume your routine.

How do the at-home derma rollers compare?

Think of it this way, coming in to The Skin Boutique for a Skin Needling treatment is like going in to workout with a Personal Trainer and using the derma roller at home is like working out at the gym with no guidance. It will still be good, but you will definitely have more dramatic results when you see a professional!

How long before I see results?

The true result of your Skin Needling treatment will be apparent 3-6 months post treatment as your skin regenerates and continues to produce new collagen and elastin. Most clients report an improvement in their skin texture and clarity within a 6-8 week period.

Skin Needling really is one of the most effective and least invasive treatments you can have that will absolutely transform your skin. So if you want to know more or you’re ready to try it, get in touch with us and let one of our Skin Specialists guide you to flawless skin!
